Suburban Vandalism?

Woke up to see this first thing in the morning:
But wait, there's more. Is that? Is that a plunger? Did the so-called vandals actually buy more than tp for their night of fun?

YES! They left me a free gift! Hooray!

Now I'm not mad at all for the inconvenience!
(actually, it really made my weekend and am proud that our house was chosen over all the others on our street:)
However, the question remains "What type of self-respecting vandal would leave a present behind after a yard rolling?"

I'm Old

The second week of classes are over. I am, no doubt, the oldest student in class. How do I know?

*I am the only one with grey hair.
*I chose to sit in the front of class.
*I don't text during class.
*I do my homework before class.
*I am the only student with reading glasses.
* I am usually the last to leave
*I am the only one who is not wearing her CONVERSE ALL-STARS*

*Unfortunately, mine went the way of the dinosaurs circa 1987

Amy Comes Thru

We got a surpise package in the mail from Amy in Utah!
Amy is proud of herself since she mailed our Christmas presents before the end of the month of January. Personally, I think this is great considering I haven't mailed hers yet....
There were tons of cute items in the package!
Lots of handmade felt ornaments- even one w/ an 'M' for our Max! Homemade bath soaps, and candy for Gary... we sure do miss our Feisthamels! Love you guys!

Huzzah! Henry takes 3rd

Henry's Pinewood was Tuesday. He placed 3rd in WEbelos Category. We're especially proud of him since he did most of his own work. :>

Scarring versus Bruising

Do ya think there is any chance that the bruises on my stomach from once-a-day injections while in the hospital will clear up before the 59 holes in my abdomen? Seriously...

Water water everywhere

Update: 7am, water connected! oh yeah, shower for me!

Sandra, do you know how long it has been since I took a shower? Don't ya know me at all? My appearance of my hair is the least of my problems...

.... except in the house!

Woke this morning to Gary shouting "NO WATER", "No water", "no water". Before I opened my eyes I scanned my brain:
yes, Gary said he paid the overdue water bill (I had been several weeks out of the bill paying loop with the appendicitis shenanigans.) I also think I paid the latest water bill received two weeks ago....

Yes, bills were paid. Phone call now necessary to the city. They indicated a
"problem" in our area which will be fixed shortly. Luckily, there is a trickle of water to wash breakfast dishes. This happy and convenient state of affairs only lasted about an hour before the water was totally out.

We waited patiently all day until 4:50pm when we called the city.
"The problem has been fixed and now we are flushing the pipes. Water will be back on in a few"

As of 10:10, there is still no water.

We are OK since we have a water barrel to flush toilets and we keep giant bottled water in fridge; however, you may know my
shower habits... I was planning on showering today to get ready for classes tomorrow. Oh, well, I will just be the ripest smelling co-ed on campus- not to mention the oldest, I'm sure.

Touching the Void
is one excellent documentary that I highly recommend to everyone.
Tagline from the movie found on IMDB:

"The closer you are to death. The more you realize you are alive."

Creepy Spike

Henry's Cub Scout Pack has a railroad spike named, appropriately enough, "Spike Jr.". He is not unlike "Flat Lily" or "Flat Max" in that he goes with different Packs to experience new things. Leaders report on his shenanigans while we have him. Spike Jr. has made his way to my house for an up-close portraiture. We made a Santa hat/suit so he could look his best at Christmas.

Yeah, I know, Mothers are awesome!

TiltShiftMaker

ok, i absolutely LOVE this application for scenic photos! it makes things look teeny-tiny and in miniature. like those old trains sets! this is a picture i snapped in central colorado this past summer. here's the link again- tiltshiftmaker. try it, you'll like it!
(hint, use only scenic photos- not ones with people)

yellow man

i was going thru some pictures and found this gentleman, um yellowman cycling his way thru a tiny texas town on the way to the coast (we spotted him this summer). i had to share him w/ you considering he's so darn cute! i manipulated the photo w/ a fun new toy found at tiltshiftmaker

darling gold

the gold finches are now GOLD! finally!

...by request

it seems some of you don't appreciate the humor and disco finesse of ms. donna summers, so i've gone a bit funkier and went on down the 70's path towards war and then toning it on down towards sir Elton. perhaps this is more to your liking. if it's not...

Freaky sheephead

Ok, one of my internet friends is oh-so-nice and insists upon supplying me with uber-interesting facts/news. This perhaps is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen.

And, yes, it does spawn from your deepest, darkest nightmares:

This is a Sheepshead fish found in the mid-Atlantic thru Texas (shudder).

28 staples

doctor said to comfort me ('cause I was freaking out a bit): "have you ever plucked your eye-brows? that's what it feels like when staples are being removed"

that, my friends is an incorrect statement*. it hurts. not even close to the amount that taking the 12" drain tube out(double-dose shot of morphine required), but it hurts none-the-less.

*this of course depends entirely on if you find plucking out eyebrows as being painful. i do not.

Lab Discoveries

I've been sleeping alot except today I began 'stumbling' round the internet (I should have been knitting for my Swap-bot partners, I know) when I found this: (linky to the left!!!!)

Holy cow! I LOVE THIS! This is a pattern only and I would love to order it should it become available again and if I had a bit better knitting skills.

And to think I never dissected a frog in high school or college!

MEDUSA Hair

Easily achieved by those if my family; however, here is the recipe*:

-7-day dirty hair (rolling around in bed 24-7 helps)
-wash hair @ 9pm following nurses eventual permission
-comb ridiculously long hair w/ tiny comb provided for children
-go to sleep w/ wet hair
-have intense pain resulting in restless, fitful sleep

voila, Medusa hair

*sorry, pictures not available at this time

Hospital Musings

*Note to self: if ever become a nice looking nurse with perfect posture and coiffed hair do not OPENLY SCOFF at creature hobbling down corridor w/ glasses dating back 25 years, post-op 5 days w/ hair described as "medusa-like"
